1. Does FORTRUST charge for student services?

No. We provide free services to international students, including course application and visa application assistance.

2. How do I apply for courses through FORTRUST?

Our experienced counsellors are trained to find out the most suitable course options specifically for your unique situation. So your first step is to simply talk to us or visit one of our offices.

3. What do I need to provide for applying?

You will need to provide your passport, transcripts and student visa (for onshore students) to apply for schools.

4. If I need to apply for IELTS, what should I do?

Visit http://www.ielts.org/test_takers_information/find_my_nearest_test_centre.aspx for a complete list of available test centres and test dates. You will need to fill in the application form which can be downloaded from the website, and then register in person at the relevant test centre.

5. When can I start my course?

Different courses and institutions have different intake times. In general, universities have 2 intakes a year (Feb and July), while some campuses have 3 intakes a year (Feb, June, Oct). Some Diploma, foundation or vocational programs may have 3 or more intakes per year.

Talk to us for further details.

6. How long does it take to get an offer from the school?

This varies among different institutions. Most colleges have a turnaround time of several working days whereas some universities would take longer, possibly up to weeks, especially during busy periods such as pre-enrolment times.

7. I have failed many subjects in my current course, what should I do?

Our counsellors have a lot of experience in successfully helping students who had unsatisfactory academic performance and even some who were excluded by their institutions, to transfer to other reputable institutions which are more suited to their standards, allowing them to excel in their further studies and bring them back on track to a bright and hopeful future career pathway.

8. Can I get credit exemptions with my previous studies?

Students may be granted credit exemptions (usually known as Recognition of Prior Learning, or RPL) by institutions based on their previous qualifications and studies, although such decisions are totally based on the new institutions. In general, students will need to provide course outlines and syllabus of previous studies as well as a separate RPL application form for credit exemption requests.

9. Must I provide IELTS results to study in Australia?

Basically, international students must satisfy the English requirements set for any particular course when they apply for them. IELTS is one of the most widely accepted indicators of English proficiency for institutions in Australia, but in some cases students may be able to meet the English requirement by other forms of proof, such as previous completion of a certain level of academic course.

10. I want to study in a course that can get me Australian permanent residency (PR), what are your suggestions?

To be eligible for PR application, applicants are required to have finished a qualification that is deemed to be related to an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL), as well as satisfying other specified requirements. However, as the SOL and other criteria are subject to change annually, therefore it cannot be guaranteed that your completed qualification is still eligible for PR application. Hence is it most recommended for students to make their study plans based on their interest and career prospects, but not solely on PR eligibility.

11. Do I have the chance to apply for a scholarship?

A number of institutions (usually universities) have scholarships for students with outstanding academic performance, although institutions may or may not offer scholarships for international students. There are also scholarships from specified institutions that are exclusive to student who apply through FORTRUST. Consult our counsellors when you apply.

12. How do I apply for a student visa?

Our experienced counsellors provide free assistance to our students in lodging their student visa applications. To prepare for student visa application, students will need (including but not limited to):

  • Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
  • Student Visa Application Fee (charged by DIAC)
  • Overseas Student Health Cover – OSHC (purchased to cover visa’s proposed duration)
  • Medical Check Receipt/Booking Number

And depending on your passport nationality, you may or may not need:

  • Specified Level of English and Academic Documents Proof
  • Financial Proof

Talk to us for more details.

13. Can I extend my visa in Australia if my previous visa has already expired?

Although international students should renew their visas before expiring, you may still be allowed to do so within 28 days after your previous visa’s expiry date, provided that you meet all other specified requirements for lodging your student visa.

14. If I transfer to another education provider, do I need to apply for a new visa?

International students are required to hold a student visa subclass that is consistent to their current course level. If your main course of study has changed to a different course level as a result of changing to a new school (e.g. Diploma to Bachelor), then you will need to apply for a new student visa of the relevant subclass immediately.

Our friendly and experienced counsellors will be able to explain in further detail in regards to your case.
