What will I learn?
This 4-year full time or equivalent part time degree is offered at the Hobart and Launceston campuses, and a limited number of first year units are available at the Cradle Coast Campus. A Bachelor of Business degree offers you the opportunity to study business fundamentals and then to specialise and aim towards your chosen career in business by selecting one of the following majors: Accounting (Hobart, Launceston, Cradle Coast), Business Economics (Hobart), International Logistics Management (Launceston, Distance), Finance (Hobart, Distance), Human Resource Management (Hobart, Distance), Information and Communication Technology (Hobart, Launceston), Marketing (Hobart, Distance), Management (Hobart, Launceston).
In the Science component of the degree you can choose from a range of fields of specialisation as follows: Applied Mathematics (Hobart), Aquatic Biology (Launceston), Biochemistry (Hobart), Chemistry (Hobart), Computer Science (Hobart and Launceston), General Mathematics (Hobart), Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing (Hobart), Geography & Environmental Studies (Hobart and Launceston), Geology (Hobart), Microbiology (Hobart), Physics (Hobart), Plant Science (Hobart), Psychology (Hobart and Launceston), Pure Mathematics (Hobart), Statistics and Applied Mathematics (Hobart), Statistics and Operations Research (Hobart), Zoology (Hobart). In the Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Science you study 32 units (or the equivalent of 400 credit points) from the schedule.
The combined degree requirements consist of:
A major in each degree component of 8 units: 2 introductory, 2 intermediate and 4 advanced units
A minor in each degree component of 4 units: 2 introductory, 2 intermediate level units
Degree electives: 3 units in each degree component. In the Bachelor of Business component, the compulsory first year degree electives are all at introductory level (with the exception of students who are completing an Accounting major who will enrol in BOTH BFA104 and BFA208, one of which replaces a breadth unit). Note: The degree electives in the Bachelor of Business are required to be taken at introductory level as they form pre-requisites for later units and would normally be taken in the first 2 years of study, if studying full-time. In the Bachelor of Science component, 1-2 degree electives may be studied at introductory level and 1-2 at intermediate or advanced level.
In the Bachelor of Business component, you choose a major, a linked minor, 3 degree electives and a breadth unit. The first year units are common to all students (with a choice of 1 degree elective and a breadth unit). Students then elect to specialise in one of the majors, which have linked minors and degree electives. Note: if you have not chosen a major and minor, you should initially enrol in the following compulsory units in the first and second year of study (if studying full-time). These will meet the requirements for 1 of the introductory units in the major, the 2 introductory units for the minor and the 3 degree electives. When choosing the remaining introductory degree elective, you will need to consider your choice of major.
