Courses Overview

What will I learn?
Civil and structural engineers design, construct and manage the systems and infrastructure which is part of modern life. Specific areas include structures, water resources, roads and traffic, bridges and marine structures.
There is a particular focus on structural engineering, water and its uses and the principles of sustainability, all of which combine to make graduates highly valued across a range of work.
Course Structure
The first year of study introduces foundation engineering skills common to and necessary for all areas of engineering. This provides a broad background useful for all students; before they go on to specialize in their chosen area of engineering.
Subsequent years build on the foundation of the first year to provide specific learning appropriate to the chosen specialization. The final year includes a design project and a thesis, both of which are capstone units intended to bring together all the learning of the previous years and prepare students for careers as professional engineers.
A candidate must successfully complete units totaling 320 credit points (cp). All units are valued at 10 credit points unless indicated.
