What will I learn?
You will receive job-ready training in biological and biomedical molecular sciences and explore the biochemical basis of life, how cells: reproduce, differentiate, produce proteins, manipulate and respond to their environments. You will have the opportunity to amplify and edit DNA sequences, to create genetically recombinant living organisms and produce recombinant products.
The course covers biochemistry, microbiology, biotechnology and bioinformatics.
In second year the course diversifies into two complementary streams of subjects:
The Molecular Biology stream includes Molecular Genetics and Genes, Genomes and Development.
The Cell Biology stream includes Cell Regulation and Advanced Cell Biology
Course highlights
Hands-on research: You will have the opportunity to conduct laboratory based and field based projects, gaining first-hand experience using cutting edge equipment and techniques
Dedicated teaching team: Teaching staff will use examples from their own research interests, including eco-genomics, stem cell biology, tropical infections, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, allergies and cancer.
Facilities: Our excellent laboratory facilities and regular program of visiting lecturers, who are experts in their field, mean your course is up-to-date with the latest findings
Career opportunities
