Courses Overview

What will I learn?
A candidate for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy shall undertake a program of study and research approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. The program shall include the presentation of a thesis and/or other work approved by the Committee, embodying the results of the candidate's study and research, for examination.
A supervisor or supervisors shall be appointed with the approval of the University and subject to the general direction of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Engineering, Health, Science and the Environment, will provide direction and advice to the candidate.
Human Health and Wellbeing
The School of Health supervises students engaged in PhD programs by research, as well as professional doctorates.
Within the area of human health and well-being, we strive to progress the evolution of an interdisciplinary health service, leading to better health outcomes for Indigenous communities and remote-area populations. Charles Darwin University (CDU) is renowned for its research expertise and leadership in tropical and desert knowledge of the Australian and Asia-Pacific region, with particular focus on Indigenous issues.
Particular focus is given to the development and evaluation of:
Governance of health services, including policy and program development, implementation and evaluation.
Culturally appropriate services, based on a sound understanding of the biological, environmental and social determinants of chronic and tropical diseases among Indigenous peoples, in particular.
Multi-professional health service delivery, which seeks to build an evidence base to shape health care and the delivery of related services.
Early origins of chronic diseases looking at building knowledge and evidence of the complex causal pathways to chronic diseases.
Welfare and community services, providing early intervention and prevention services appropriate to the social and cultural context of communities, with particular focus on: families and parenting, child and adolescent health, prevention of suicide and substance misuse, and prevention of domestic and family violence.

Entry Requirement From Vietnam

The minimum academic requirements for admission to a postgraduate or graduate entry degree is the completion of a bachelor's degree which is deemed equivalent to an Australian bachelor's degree by the University's qualification assessment references. Applicants may also be required to satisfy specific course requirements such as a minimum overall grade score, prerequisite knowledge or work experience. Applicants must have successfully completed the equivalent of an Australian honours degree or master's degree. Other English language requirements accepted: Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) - A minimum overall score of 176 with no skill below 169 or Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic module - A minimum overall score of 58 with no score lower than 50.


Entry Requirement For International Student

You must have completed the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor degree with second class Honours division A, or an Australian Masters degree (with a substantial research component). Alternatively, you may have other qualifications and/or experience equivalent to these degrees.
Other English Language Requirements:
Australian Technology and Management College (ATMC) - Successful completion of English for Academic Purposes (EAP). Students will be required to sit an exit test on completion and achieve a score equivalent to IELTS overall 6.5; Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) minimum overall score of 176 with no skill below 169; Common European Framework Certificate of English Proficiency minimum overall grade of C1 valid for three years from the date of the test to the date of commencement at CDU; Navitas Academic English - a minimum overall pass of 65% in Academic English 3 with a 65% pass in the research essay; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic module minimum overall score of 58 with no score lower than 50.
