Courses Overview

What will I learn?
The newly designed Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) develops your problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills and incorporates project-based learning so you can graduate work ready.
The first year of your studies provides a generic understanding of engineering, allowing you to experience each different area of engineering before you choose a particular path to follow. Later in your studies you have the flexibility to choose to study Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic or Mining Engineering. One of the benefits of studying engineering at CQUniversity is our strong relationships with industry practitioners that offer support through scholarships, guest lectures and work integrated learning.
Study the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) either full-time or part-time and on-campus or by distance education. You may choose to study by distance education while working in engineering, allowing you to earn and gain practical experience while you learn.
Program Structure
You are required to complete a total of 24 units including:
six core units
18 units from a selected plan in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering; or seven units from the Mining Engineering plan one professional practice elective unit.
Majors
Civil Engineering: As a Civil Engineer you will be involved with structures and systems such as roads, water supply, bridges, buildings and tunnels. Civil Engineers are responsible for the design and construction of all our transport systems, the design and management of our gas and water supply, sewerage systems, harbors, airports and railways. They also plan, design and test the structures of private and public buildings and facilities.
Electrical Engineering: Electrical Engineers are involved in areas such as electricity generation and distribution, communication systems, control systems and electronic equipment. As an Electrical Engineer you may plan the design of power stations and power equipment, design electrical systems, produce drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) and make decisions on the best type and arrangement of electrical circuits, transformers, circuit-breakers, transmission lines and equipment.
Mechanical Engineering: Mechanical Engineers are involved with machines that 'move' such as trucks, trains, ships, planes and manufacturing equipment. Mechanical Engineers may perform tasks such as designing new machines and equipment that meet their client's needs and budgets, taking into account factors such as cost, availability of materials, strength and maintenance requirements, and the end-user of the equipment.
Mining Engineering: As a Mining Engineer you will typically be involved with the extraction and processing of minerals and earth's resources, such as coal, gas, precious stones and metals. As a Mining Engineer you may work with geologists to investigate and extract resources from the earth by planning the safest and most cost-effective way of doing so.
Mechatronic Engineering: Mechatronic Engineering combines mechanical, electrical and computer engineering to create systems that include both movement and intelligence. As a Mechatronic Engineer you may be involved in the design and maintenance of machinery and gadgets such as aircraft, robots, small electronic devices and plant machinery.
Career Opportunities
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) is your gateway to a variety of engineering roles. Upon completion of the course you will be qualified to work as a professional Engineer in the Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic or Mining Engineering fields depending on your chosen major.
