What will I learn?
The Bachelor of Arts - Enhanced Program for High Achievers is designed to enable high achieving students to maximise their intellectual growth in a supportive environment.
You will study alongside students with similar capabilities, develop your interests and share ideas. In addition, the course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to pursue further study at honours and research higher degree levels.
You will complete core topics specifically designed for the High Achievers Program and at least one major sequence and one minor sequence offered in the Bachelor of Arts.
History can be a part of any degree and should be an essential part of your university training. You can specialise in it. It can complement your vocational courses. You can take individual topics.
History deals with big issues: global migration, the population explosion, famine, technological change, human impact on the environment, the explosive consequences of nationalism, war and society, the rise and fall of empires, revolution, decolonisation, democracy, fascism and communism. These are taught in the fields of Australian, European, American and International history.
You may focus on one area or study a combination of topics on different parts of the world. Both approaches have their advantages and are equally encouraged. History's topics are taught so that you are offered the greatest flexibility and choice in topic selection. Special emphasis is placed on methods of analysis and the use of historical evidence.
Communication of ideas in a clear and literate style is stressed. An atmosphere of free intellectual inquiry is fostered to improve research skills.
