Australia Awards Scholarships: Applications now open for 2024 intake

The Australian Government has announced that applications for the 2024 Australia Awards Scholarships round are now open.

The scholarships provide the opportunity for individuals from a selection of developing countries to undertake full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities.

What are the Australia Awards Scholarships?
The Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS) program is highly prestigious and competitive. It offers government-funded grants to students from a wide range of locations globally who can demonstrate leadership qualities and a drive for change.

The program continues the long-term commitment by successive Australian Governments to support partner countries through scholarships. It aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to development in their own country.

Since the 1950s, over 100,000 international students have received an Australian Government Scholarship to study in Australia.

What is included in the scholarship?
The scholarships cover a range of expenses including:

Tuition fees
Return air travel
Establishment allowances – a contribution towards accommodation expenses, textbooks, study materials
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
Contribution to living expenses – a fortnightly contribution to basic living expenses paid at a rate determined by the department.
In addition, students will also have access to a range of support services which may include language and academic support if needed.

Who is eligible?
You can view the full list of participating countries on the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) website.

Please note: If your country is not on this list, you can check for other scholarship opportunities by heading to our course search page and clicking on the “scholarships” tab.

The AAS program is open to individuals who demonstrate leadership skills, a strong commitment to development, and the potential to make a positive impact in their communities and countries.

Award conditions
If you are chosen for an Australia Awards Scholarship, you would need to sign a contract declaring that you will comply with the conditions of the scholarship. You would also be required to leave Australia for a minimum of two years after completing the scholarship.

Australia Awards Scholarships provide the opportunity for scholars to gain valuable knowledge and skills. The AAS program also offers scholars a global network of fellow alumni, and the opportunity to develop lifelong connections with Australia and the broader international community.

Upon completion of studies, AAS graduates are able to use their knowledge and skills to contribute to the development of their home country and community.
